More than 1,700 companies went before you. It's that simple. Check.
After 20 minutes, your blood pressure and heart rate recover to pre-smoking levels. When you smoke, the nicotine causes the blood vessels to constrict. This causes blood pressure to rise and the heart has to work harder to deliver oxygen to the organs. Therefore, when you no longer ingest nicotine, you are more likely to have healthy blood pressure and heart rate.
After 12 hours, the percentage of carbon monoxide that entered your body from smoking disappears. This allows the blood to extract more oxygen from the lungs. When you smoke, the carbon monoxide gets in the way of this process because the body absorbs carbon monoxide faster than oxygen.
After 48 hours, you taste more and your sense of smell improves. Your olfactory nerves and taste buds that went numb in your smoking years begin to recover after two days. You can better distinguish and recognize smells and tastes again.
After 3 days without smoking, the nicotine is out of your body. Because nicotine disappears from the body relatively quickly, smoking cigarettes spread throughout the day is preferred. This way the nicotine level stays up. The longer you don't give in to the craving for nicotine, the less your body will ask for it.
AFTER 2 weeks, lung function improves. Your so-called smoker's cough slowly disappears and your lung hairs grow back. This means your body can process mucus normally again and you are less likely to get lung infections.
Are you curious to know what your skin will look like if you still smoke 10 or 20 years from now? The app "The Smoking Time Machine" shows how your skin reacts to your smoking.
When you smoke, the nicotine causes the vascular walls to be damaged. Not for nothing that nearly 90% of vascular patients smoke. Fortunately, the vessel walls can recover. By quitting smoking, the blood can absorb more oxygen and supply the organs with enough fresh blood.
When you have stopped smoking for 1 year, your body can absorb more oxygen and send enough fresh blood to the organs. This promotes the health of your vessel walls and results in a significant reduction in the risk of heart attack due to arterial calcification. In fact, the risk halves compared to if you continue to smoke.
After quitting smoking for two years, you are as likely to have a heart attack as a non-smoker.
After 5 years, the risk of various types of cancer is reduced by 50% than if you smoked. In addition, the risk of stroke decreases significantly.
After 10 years of not smoking, you cut your risk of death from lung, pancreatic and laryngeal cancers in half, compared to if you continued to smoke.
After 15 years, you are as likely to have cardiovascular disease as a non-smoker.
