Physical examination

A preventive medical examination is a health examination for employees. During such an examination, the focus is on identifying health risks and a person's body measurements, blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar, among other things. This basic health check can be expanded with several additional modules, such as an eye test, an ear test, a food intolerance test or a physical examination. In this blog we will tell you about the physical examination. What does this consist of and what is it for?

The physical examination consists of:

  • Sit and Reach test
  • Test of shoulder strength
  • Pinch force measurement
  • Questionnaire

All examinations are taken in their entirety on the bus by our health check co-workers. This includes taking the questionnaire.

Sit and Reach test

The Sit and Reach test is an easy test that measures the flexibility of your torso and the lower part of your body. Examining this is important because stiffness and tension in this region is often associated with lower back pain. Having short hamstrings is guaranteed to cause lower back pain in the future. In addition, strong and limber hamstrings are very important in many sports.

Shoulder Length

This exercise is performed with 2 fists with the thumb on the inside in each fist. The person is asked to make maximum adduction and endorotation (placing the fist on the back below the shoulder blade along) with one arm and maximum abduction and exorotation (placing the fist on the back above the shoulder blade along) with the other arm. The hands remain in a fist and are brought as close together as possible.

The distance is measured between the two fists. The test is performed 3 times on both the left and right. There are numerous muscles, tendons, ligaments and blood vessels around the shoulder, providing flexibility and support. But because of this, this area is also prone to injury. Doing regular stretching exercises can reduce the risk of sprained muscles and other injuries.

Pinch force measurement

When performing daily activities, such as washing, dressing and eating, the hand and forearm play an important role. The hand squeeze force meter measures the force that the hand can exert, giving an estimate of the function of the muscles in this area. Hand squeeze strength is related to overall muscle function and the amount of muscle mass in the body. Lower pinch strength is associated with functional limitations/reduced mobility and a predictor of physical health problems.

Questionnaire

During the bus visit, a questionnaire is also administered to the employee. The questions asked provide insight into the musculoskeletal system, any (chronic) complaints and a possible relationship to work.

The answers to these questions are fed back to the employee as well as completely anonymized at the group level to the employer.

Customized advice movement therapist

The movement therapist combines the answers to the questions with observations while taking the tests and provides customized advice based on the results. Both the individual scores on the three tests and the advice are fed back to the personal online dashboard JOHAN. This allows employees to focus on the advice. Because all questions are multiple choice, quantitative feedback can also be given to the employer. Would you like to know more about our examinations in addition to our physical examination?
