Blood pressure
Measuring blood pressure gives an indication of the risk of cardiovascular disease. However, the level of blood pressure depends on many factors such as age, gender, exercise and risk factors such as smoking and obesity. With elevated blood pressure, the heart must exert more force to pump the same amount of blood through a smaller opening. It is therefore important to have your blood pressure measured regularly.
Heartbeat
While measuring blood pressure, we also look at your heart rate. Normally, your heart beats at a regular rate. How high your heart rate is depends on what you are doing. For example, the heart rate at rest is lower than when you are exerting yourself. In general, the resting heart rate in adults is between 60 and 100 beats per minute.
Cholesterol
Cholesterol is a building material for cells and hormones. Most of the cholesterol in the body is made by the liver and the remainder is in food. Ideally, the body makes just enough cholesterol. If the body makes too much cholesterol, there is a risk of various health problems. Among other things, too much cholesterol increases the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Glucose
Blood sugar (blood glucose) is the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood. Just before eating, this value will be somewhat lower, while immediately after eating, blood sugar levels are likely to rise. Being overweight, little exercise, heredity, smoking, high blood pressure and age increases the risk of diabetes. The standard used for blood sugar is from the Diabetes Fund.
