Hearing test

Hearing is invaluable. Good hearing allows us to communicate well with each other verbally, avoid dangerous situations in traffic and enjoy music. Thus, hearing impairment has social consequences. The importance of good hearing is therefore great. Yet more than 2 million Dutch people have problems with their hearing. They are more likely to suffer from fatigue, anxiety, depression and loneliness. Preventive checking of hearing can prevent the risk of hearing damage and possible side effects or reduce the degree of impact.

How is the condition of the ears measured?

During the test, the participant is given headphones. These headphones are connected to an audiometer. Through the headphones you hear tones in different frequencies (pitches) and with different intensities. Each time the participant hears a sound, they are asked to press a button. In this way, the audiometer can accurately chart whether there is hearing damage and where the hearing damage is located.

This test is not taken in a soundproof room. You may therefore hear some ambient noise during the test. This also plays a role in everyday life. It is never completely quiet, think of background music in a restaurant, noise in the office and sounds from traffic. This way you get a realistic picture of hearing.
