Body Mass Index (BMI).
The Body Mass Index (BMI) is an internationally used measure that shows whether you have a healthy weight in relation to your height. However only an indication of the BMI does not say everything, every body is different. For example, the BMI is less suitable if you are very muscular, pregnant or breastfeeding, very tall or very small or have an Asian background. Therefore, we supplement this measurement with the measurements of fat percentage, visceral fat (invisible fat), muscle mass, resting metabolism, abdominal circumference and body weight.
Besides weight, where body fat is located is also important for your health. In fact, fat in and around the abdomen is detrimental to your health. This combination of values gives a good indication of health.

What is a healthy BMI?
A BMI between 20 and 25 is considered a healthy BMI.
Is the number below 18.5? Then we speak of being underweight. People who are underweight are more likely to lack essential nutrients, have a less healthy immune system and fatigue symptoms. Therefore, it is advisable to look into ways to increase BMI.
At a BMI of over 25, a person is overweight and at more than 30 is severely overweight or obese. People with a (too) high BMI are more likely to have cardiovascular disease, diabetes ll and joint problems. Exercising more, eating healthier and relaxing more often are ways to get back to a healthy weight. On our inspiration square you will find all kinds of practical tips and advice to easily improve your lifestyle.
