Reduce cardiovascular disease

By 2040, the number of people with cardiovascular disease will increase 65% over 2011. At least, if we are to believe the predictions. The already published research by the RIVM commissioned by the Heart Foundation says that in more than 25 years, 1.4 million people in the Netherlands will have had a heart attack or stroke or suffer from heart failure. An unhealthy lifestyle is a major cause of this. Despite the fact that Dutch people are living healthier lives, there is a large group that is lagging behind and that is a shame. A vital lifestyle gives you more energy, self-confidence and obviously benefits your health.

Aging and lifestyle as a cause of cardiovascular disease

Human beings are getting older. A fact that influences the growing number of cardiovascular problems. The aging population can therefore be identified as a major cause for this. Nevertheless, we can take action ourselves by adopting a healthier lifestyle. For example, by lowering blood pressure and cholesterol and keeping our weight healthy. We can direct our health by exercising more, quitting smoking and drinking alcohol in moderation, among other things.

Did you know that if people with hypertension lowered it, it would save 360,000 cardiovascular patients? Another 320,000 patients would be added if smokers quit their addiction.

Healthy inspiration

To get started with these health guidelines in a focused way often proves more difficult than thought. Improving your lifestyle requires a good dose of patience and energy, so many quickly fall back on their old habits. Yet we can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease in a fun, accessible way.

Relaxing in the sauna

By regularly relaxing in the sauna, you reduce your risk of a heart attack by 24%. This is according to a large Finnish study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association. The small risk of cardiovascular disease is most likely due to the relaxed lifestyle of sauna visitors. The study found that people who visit the sauna four to seven times a week are more than 40 percent less likely to develop cardiovascular problems. In short: what are you waiting for?

Singing relaxes

Singing lowers cortisol levels. Cortisol is a substance in the body that affects stress levels and it causes your body to become unbalanced in terms of exertion and relaxation. It is important to keep your cortisol levels low since stress increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. In addition, singing promotes circulation by keeping breathing low and under control. Now unfortunately we are not all born with golden throats, but a lovely singing session every morning in the shower or in the car is more than healthy!

Did you know that 66% of athletes stay motivated when they do it with a friend?

Sports Together

Sufficient exercise lowers blood pressure and can lead to weight loss. Also, it is a good way to prevent cardiovascular disease. Sweating, the faster beating of the heart and the way you breathe trigger all kinds of beneficial body processes. For example, it stimulates circulation, keeps your muscles healthy and has a positive effect on your fat percentage. In these dark winter months, it can sometimes be difficult to exercise, even though you know it's good for your mood. So exercise together with a friend, neighbor/husband or sibling! Together you will get further.

Keep your diet balanced

A healthy weight reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. Understanding your diet can be a way to maintain your healthy weight or achieve a healthy weight. You can determine your ideal diet and adjust it where necessary. The wide range of applications offers you the opportunity to start analyzing your diet today. For example, MyFitnessPal has an application that scans food for nutritional values. The app also offers the ability to enter products manually. The app holds up a mirror to you, encouraging you to eat healthier.

Share your healthy resolutions with others

Would you like to lose weight and live a healthier life, but don't know where to start? Perhaps there is someone close to you who can help. By making your intentions known, you will receive outside support which will motivate you to reach your goal.

Prevent stress and obesity

To reduce the 65% chance of a 65% increase in cardiovascular disease, we need to relax more and live healthier. You will have more energy and stay fit and healthy in the long run. By creating a healthy balance between exercise and relaxation, eating healthier and exercising more you will see healthy results in the short term and, more importantly, in the longer term.
